RIP: Anne McCaffrey

There are times when no matter what you want to say, it just doesn't seem to be enough or even right. I can tell you that an image comes to mind of a distant weyr that is strangely quiet.

I read on Boing Boing that the creator of Pern and it's wonderful dragons, Anne McCaffrey has gone between.

From all of us here, condolences to Todd McCaffrey and the rest of Anne's family.

Anne McCaffery was one of the authors that started me in sci fi. I will miss her creativity and her worlds. Good bye Pern and the rest. RIP Anne.

When I first read her "ship" stories and the first one Helva in the Ship Who Sang, sold me. I identified with the concept of the brain ships and then when I joined the SFBC and one of the free books I took was the Dragonriders of Pern, again I was sold on the vision. (who could not identify with the White Dragon?)

I know over the past decade she was failing, but it is one of those things that you tuck away and try not to think about.

Yes, It is certainly a much colder less colorful universe without Mz. McCaffrey.

Thanks for weighing in.
